(More customer reviews)We mounted these (and other sizes of these units) on our walls and they make great bookcases. Keeping the bookcase furniture off the floor makes a room look and feel larger (being able to see the floor all the way out to each wall is a well-known interior decorator trick for making a room appear larger) and sweeping/vacuuming is lots easier, too, since you don't need to mess around with furniture corners: just slide along the baseboards under the hanging cabinets. At 15" deep, these offer a bit more storage for larger/deeper books than Ikea Billy bookcases (which these replaced) that are only 11" deep, and the 15" height also allows for taller books to stand upright. The 15" depth is still shallow enough, however, to not stick out into the room too much, so you don't lose much "room space" and in trade, you get more useful storage. Regarding this drawer unit specifically, we use it to hold extra blankets for chilly nights, our remotes, and all the other miscellanea that all living rooms have. Keeps everything hidden away when not in actual use, which keeps our place neat and also keeps things from becoming kitty toys (we have cats....*everything* is a potential toy!)
These are comparable in quality to Ikea, so if you have kids, these might take a beating. We're an all adult household, so we expect that these will last quite a few years before needing to be replaced again due to starting to look worn. However, the price is very reasonable - if these last 5 years, it amortizes out to around $10 per year per cabinet for these 30" wide units (less per year for the cheaper 15" wide units)...hard to beat. Great item for those needing lots of storage for a cheap price (esp. if you're an all adult household so these will be treated a bit more gently to extend their life). If you can mount these on the wall (think iron L, or angle, brackets), you'll get a great, modern, ALMOST "built in" look for a VERY cheap price compared to what a carpenter would charge for custom work, and buying these will save you lots of time compared to doing the building yourself.
